6-8-10: Tazo was found alone on the beach, far away from the water and with no mother in sight to care for him. Jerry and Deb of Homer, AK contacted the ASLC Stranded Hotline. Thanks to Deb Tobin and Kristin Worman for the rescue and transport assistance of Tazo.

6-9-10: When Tazo arrived at the Alaska SeaLife Center around 1 am, our veterinary staff gave him a thorough examination. Sea otter pups are extremely fragile, and though he seems healthy he will be very closely monitored over the next couple of days.

6-11-10: Tazo is now being bottle fed Sea Otter Formula every 1 1/2 to 2 hours. He is becoming more playful, and starting to get into a routine.

6-16-10: Tazo had blood work done today to make sure he's healthy. The results look good.

6-21-10: When he's not sleeping or eating, Tazo loves swimming and playing in a tote filled with ice and toys!

6-23-10: Tazo is consistently suckling every 3 hours. He's growing fast, and now weighs 3.0 kg (6.6 lb).

6-26-10: Today Tazo was introduced to clams, and he loves them!

6-30-10: Tazo is becoming much more active, and spends very little time sleeping in his crib. He loves to play in a tote filled with ice and toys.

7-4-10: Happy 4th of July! Tazo celebrated by sleeping through the fireworks.

7-10-10: Sleep, eat, swim, groom, repeat...a typical day in the life of Tazo!

7-14-10: Tazo is old enough now to swim in a bigger pool while still being supervised. He also was introduced to small pieces of squid today.

7-20-10: Today Tazo dove to the bottom of his pool for the first time!

7-27-10: A trainer from New York Aquarium will be arriving today to begin working with Tazo. This will help make Tazo's transition to his new home in New York as smooth as possible.

8-1-10: Tazo continues to do well, as preparations for his transport to New York are well under way.

8-5-10: Today's the big day! Tazo is on his way to New York!

8-6-10: New York Aquarium reports that Tazo did well on his flight across the country, and he is already settling in to his new home! He is eating, swimming, diving and grooming well!
