There’s a big bird coming to Alaska, but it’s not a tourist from Sesame Street! Our avian giant is a tufted puffin, representing an Alaskan icon more likely to be found on the rocky cliffs of Kenai Fjords or “flying” underwater in the Alaska SeaLife Center’s popular seabird habitat. This puffin is not likely to join its fish-eating cousins in the water, but he—or is it she?—will be welcoming visitors to Anchorage and Seward beginning this summer. The puffin plans a busy summer riding the train between Anchorage and Seward, greeting cruise ships, and providing entertainment for families that visit the Alaska SeaLife Center. “All I need is a great name, and I’ll really be able to strut my stuff,” said the mascot.
Winning Prize: The contest winner will get an opportunity to be “Keeper for a Day;” round trip transportation for two on the Alaska Railroad between Seward and Anchorage; and an education program for the classroom of your choice—either at the SeaLife Center, by our outreach educator in Anchorage, or by videoconference to schools in rural Alaska or outside the state.
Entry Deadline: Must be received by the Alaska SeaLife Center by May 13th at 5:00 pm Alaska Daylight Time
