Join the Education team on Friday January 20th for the Alaska SeaLife Center's Family Science Night at the Movies! The showings will be at the UAF Rae building located on 3rd Avenue.The 6:00 PM show is Surf's Up 2: Wave Mania and admission is free for the first 100 people. Following with the 8:00 PM show, The Shallows, for only $2 admission per person. Hope to see you there for this fun family event!

Join us for the third Saturday of Winter FISHtival with family friendly activities led by our animal care experts and educators. Winter FISHtival activites are included in admission/free to members. So come join us! 

Jan. 21 is all about squishy things like jellies, sea cucumbers, nudibranchs and more! 

1:00 p.m. Magnify Magic
Discover a universe beyond what you can see with the human eye alone. Using the magic of magnification with hand lenses, microscopes and a projection screen we will lead you on a new exploration our Discovery Touch Tank. 

1:30 p.m. Underwater Adventure
Join us in our underwater viewing area for a marine mammal educational adventure led by members of our award winning education team! Learn about the antics, adaptions and behaviors of sea lions and seals in the Alaska’s marine ecosystem. 

2:30 p.m. Squishy Things! 
This week's highlight: jellies, nudibranchs, sea cucumbers and other squishy things. Join our aquarists and educators to explore the amazing and diverse world of invertebrates. We will look for newest arrivals in our tanks, observe a feeding and learn more about how we take care of these unique animals. 

3:00 p.m. Birds Scatter Feeding
Did you know that puffins, murres, eiders and other seabird species dive into the ocean to hunt for food – some as deep as 600 feet or more and descending at speeds of 6.5 feet per second? You can watch these birds in high speed underwater action during a feeding in our two-story aviary aquarium. Our educators will be on hand to talk about these amazing birds, how their bodies are designed to dive and why! 

The Alaska SeaLife Center is open for winter hours daily 12-5. 
WinterFISHtival, Saturdays only in January, 2017. No reservation is required for Winter FISHtival activities.

Sat. Jan 28 we dive into the world of the giant Pacific octopus!

1:00 p.m. Magnify Magic

Meet Gilligan, a giant Pacific octopus in our Octo Grotto and learn more about one of the most intelligent members of the marine world. Our aquarists and educators will share their knowledge about these animals and then we will head up to our research theater to observe a feeding of two younger animals.
