Ben Smith

Senior Project Manager

Ben has had a variety of uniquely Alaskan experiences including Maintenance Supervisor at a remotely located salmon hatchery, and an industrial electrical instructor providing technical education for technicians working in Alaska’s industries and off grid wind, hydro and diesel power generation. He studied Geology at Michigan Technological University, holds a BSAST in Nuclear Energy Engineering from Thomas Edison State University, an MS in Industrial Engineering from the University of Arizona, and is a veteran from the US Navy. He enjoys applying his education and experience towards technical and infrastructure challenges using a systems focused approach that encompasses sustainability and energy efficiency goals.

Originally from Michigan, Ben grew up canoeing on rivers, sailing on the Great Lakes, and spending time in the Michigan woodlands. He developed a strong attachment to nature and hopes that his technical background can in part help facilitate the continued success of the Alaska Sealife Center’s mission. Ben enjoys spending time with his children and enjoys sailing during Seward summers and cross country skiing during the winter months.
