This position is responsible for fulfilling interpretive duties at the Alaska SeaLife Center.

These are seasonal, full-time or part-time positions.

Start Dates: May 5 or 19, 2014
End Date: August 31, 2014

Education/Training Requirements:
An associate’s degree in education, biology, marine science, or a related field; or high school diploma or GED with one year experience working in a related position.

Ability to see and hear; move about for up to 8 hours; stoop, kneel, and crouch; use arms and hands; handle objects, tools, and controls; and sit. Ability to lift and move 20 pounds.

Essential Duties:

  1. Enhance the visitor experience by interpreting ASLC exhibits.
  2. Supervise visitor use of the touch tank and open-air aviary.
  3. Deliver presentations that focus on the ASLC exhibits such as research projects and stranding efforts.
  4. Deliver on-site science education programs to various groups including school children, road scholars, and specialized tour groups.
  5. Lead behind-the-scene tours and assist with other programs as needed.

Other Skills and Abilities:
Skill in written and verbal communication, experience giving public presentations and/or working with children and road scholars in an educational setting, and ability to understand and interpret marine science topics, follow instructions, and work independently on projects. Experience with Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
